Closet Cleanout in a Weekend!

Thanks for joining me!

I’m a busy mom of three amazing Kidds, work full time and have a business on the side!

It takes a lot to stay organized and keep motivated some days. Today I am going to tackle my closet and hopefully gain some much needed space and peace!

Where do you begin?’

Step 1: Begin with the End in Mind

Here’s where I’m totally going to embarrass myself and possibly hubby by showing you the before pics! I need to use this time to envision what this will look like when I’m done.

This is the WHY….why are we doing this? Here’s my thoughts of why I’m tackling this activity on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Need to be able to find clothes for outfits when I need it.

Have more calm in the environment. Right now I’m standing in the closet and my anxiety is high, I look around and just think about all the things I have to do in it! It’s enough to drive anyone crazy.

Have to let go I love the old things that I will never wear.

Also to make my husband happy, he also does better in a calm, clean and organized environment!

To set a good example for the kids so hopefully they keep their closets clean as well… That’s a longshot!

Step 2: Find somewhere to put everything! You have to clear it out so there’s nothing in it in order to make sure it’s going to work proper in the end. I piled everything onto my bed…this was only my side! Yikes…I can’t believe how many clothes I have.

Step 3: Sort, Salute and Say Goodbye!

One by one, go through each item and figure out what you’re going to do with the item. You can rearrange for a fresh start. The sad truth and the hardest piece of this activity is letting go….literally!

Seriously, when will you ever wear that sparkly New Years shirt that is too short…just get rid of it! Salute, thanks for your service, Bye Bye!

Get a laundry basket out to put all the donate items in.

Why was this weird drawing/photo thing of a skinny knight hiding behind my shoe rack? See ya!

If you’re keeping it, put it back neatly in your newly envisioned calm space.

Pro tip: Find storage solutions that take up less space.

Ie – The multiple pants/skirt hanger! I got 9 skirts on this sucker….it’s from Ikea!

Step 4: It’s all in the details

As you put items away make the space your own. Put up hooks to display things you like. For example, my new focal piece is this cool sword my hunny fit in China back before we met😀

Also group like items together! My hubby has a million sprays and deodorants etc. I moved them all to a shelf and it’s way easier to see what he’s got now😀

Finally Finished!

This project ended up taking me 2 full afternoons….day 1 was my side of the closet. Day 2 was hubby’s day!

In the end I’m really happy with the way things turned out! Now I just need to keep it this way.

Happy Organizing!

Marianne
